Off-Grid Eco Village in Portugal

A Living Village Rooted in Regeneration

What if your home wasn’t a single building, but a living, breathing landscape? At A Quinta da Lage, we are co-creating an off-grid eco village in the heart of Alentejo - a place where people live in sync with nature, not in opposition to it. Here, regeneration is not a slogan. It’s a daily practice.

More than a farm, more than a retreat center, this is a village in the making. A place to live, build, grow food, raise children, regenerate the land and ourselves.

What Defines an Eco Village?

An eco village is a community designed to be socially, culturally, economically, and ecologically sustainable. At A Quinta da Lage, this means:

  • Shared infrastructure powered by renewable energy

  • Composting, water harvesting, and closed-loop systems

  • Natural building with local materials

  • Communal spaces for eating, working, learning and celebrating

  • Long-term residents who co-create and take care of the place

Unlike a short-term stay or a vacation rental, joining an eco village means becoming part of something bigger than yourself.

Life at A Quinta da Lage

Living Off-Grid

Our eco village is fully off-grid. That means:

  • Solar power for electricity

  • Rainwater filtered by nature systems

  • Compost toilets and greywater filtration

  • Wood-fired ovens

Each resident lives in a natural structure: a room in a restored clay house, cob cottages, yurts or camper homes. All designed with comfort, simplicity, and sustainability in mind.

Shared Living, Private Space

You’ll have your own space - but you won’t live alone. We share resources, spaces, and sometimes even meals - from the farm to the table. There is privacy, and there is connection. That’s the village way.

Community Culture

We value:

  • Transparency and self-Organisation

  • Conflict resolution practices

  • Work sharing and project collaboration

  • Individual responsibility and group care

You’ll be invited to monthly meetings, weekly activities, such as Yoga, Body & Mind Work, Pizza Night, land days, shared meals, workshops, and spontaneous moments of music, celebration or quiet reflection.

Who Lives Here?

Our residents are people who want to live more intentionally:

  • Young Families looking to raise children close to the earth

  • Young professionals working remotely

  • Retirees seeking community and simplicity

  • Artists, makers, builders and educators

  • People who like to “reset” themselves in a regenerative environment

  • People who like start a similar project

We are multilingual, multicultural, and united by shared values. You don’t have to be a farmer or a permaculturist. You just need to be open, kind, and committed.

How to Join

We welcome people for trial stays first, and from there, longer-term residency is possible. Our eco village is evolving organically. There are no investors, no franchise models - only real people building a real place.

To explore joining:

  • Apply for a 1 - 3 month stay

  • Come live with us, participate, and see if it fits

  • Talk to the community about longer-term options
