Arrival & facilities

How do I get there?

You can come by car and use the google maps to find A Quinta da Lage. Or you can take a bus to Vila Nova de Milfontes or Odemira and take a cab (for 20€ more or less). Or you can take the bus to São Luis and hitchhike or get a ride from there. You can contact us about picking you up, but we cannot guarantee this service permanently - it might depend on the length of your stay or staff availability.

Can I park my car/camper van at A Quinta?

Yes, we have car parking onsite. For your camper van it is needed that you book a spot in advance on our Stay page.

Is there a place to do laundry?

Yes, we have a washing machine that our guests can use if much needed. However, please note that since we are off grid, we have limited electricity and the washing machine usually is already heavily used to maintain the daily life of A Quinta. There is a laundry facility next to Intermarché in Odemira where you can wash and dry your clothes.

Can I bring my electronic devices and charge them?

We have limited access to energy considering we live off the grid and produce our own solar energy. We advise leaving devices that consume a lot of electricity at home.

Will I have access to the internet?

Yes, but limited. In most of the accommodation this means no video streaming. In the community living room and dining you can stream.

Can I bring my dog or any other pet?

Yes, but all animal friends coming to A Quinta have to be treated for ticks and fleas and have to be kept under control at all times as we have sheep and cats on the land that we would wish to keep safe. We also have a male dog Borro and he's mostly okay with other animals but can be protective of his territory when around other male dogs.

We have pills against fleas that you can purchase in our office upon your arrival if you don’t manage to treat your dog before coming here.

Will I have access to the internet?

Yes, but limited. In most of the accommodation this means no video streaming. In the community living room and dining you can stream.

Canteen & food

Do you serve meals every day at A Quinta?

Our canteen serves three meals per day from Monday to Friday. Breakfast at 9am for 5€, Lunch at 1pm for 7€ and Dinner at 7pm for 4€. You can book your meals until the day before at our Stay page.

If I am allergic to some foods, will there be an option for me?

We provide a vegetarian & vegan diet. Please inform us of any food allergies during when you book your meals. We do not cater to specific diets, but we are confident everyone will have plenty of food (even if you need to exclude things you don't eat). If your diet is gluten-free we recommend bringing your own bread and pasta with you.

Can I bring my own food and prepare it at the land?

Yes, our private cottages all have either kitchen or kitchenette. If you stay in the double room (Pôr do Sol) or the dorm you have access to the volunteers’ kitchen. If you stay in the camping please note that we don’t have a kitchen facility available for you.

Visits, volunteering & residency

Can I live at A Quinta?

Yes, for long-term stays, the minimum duration is 1 month. We require a 1-month deposit upon arrival and appreciate a notice of 1 month before departure. Long-term accommodations include private rooms, cottages, and other suitable options for extended stays.

If you are interested to stay with us, explore our accommodations and reach out to us through our Stay page.

Can I stay short-term?

Short-term stays may be available, but our focus is primarily on long-term accommodations. Short-term options may include bell tents, treehouses (summer only: April - October), dormitories, and year-round camping. Availability for short-term stays can vary.

Can I come and volunteer at any time?

Please check out the opportunities on our website and fill out the application form of the area you are most interested in. Please note that we only collaborate with volunteers who can commit at least for a month and are available for the possibility of longer term collaboration (from a few month up to a year).

Can I drop by anytime to visit?

No, you have to write us to arrange a visit. We don’t have the capacity to give you a private tour, but we organise a monthly Farm Tour and Lunch for the people who want to know more about us. You can book your place to the next one on our Agenda page

How can I volunteer?

Please read about the volunteering opportunities on our Contact page, and fill out the application form of the area you are interested in.

Can I bring my dogs or cat?

Please don’t as while we love animals, we have our own pets and don't have the capacity to host more. In special cases we can make an exception, but in general we kingly ask you not to bring animals, since we already have plenty around here.

None of my questions are here...can I write you?

Yes, please do. Contact us using our form on our Contact page.
